As the lifeline of firefighting operations, the integrity of fire hoses directly affects firefighting efficiency and operational safety. Starting from practical needs, a scientifically standardized preservation method is the key to ensuring that water hoses can be pulled, unfolded, and used in emergency situations.
The material characteristics of water hoses are sensitive to the environment, and it is necessary to construct a dry, ventilated, and dark storage space to reduce losses from the source.
Temperature and humidity control: The storage room should maintain a temperature between 5 ℃ and 30 ℃, with a relative humidity not exceeding 75%. High temperature can easily cause the rubber layer of the water hose to age and become brittle, while low temperature may make the rubber harder and lose its elasticity. High humidity environment can cause the fabric layer to mold and the metal interface to rust. Regularly check the temperature and humidity meter in daily life, and turn on dehumidifiers, heaters, and other equipment to adjust the environment during rainy or winter seasons.
Stay away from corrosive sources: The water hose storage area should be kept at least 1.5 meters away from corrosive substances such as oil, chemicals, acid and alkali solutions, and avoid direct contact with sharp metals and live equipment. If residual oil stains and fire extinguishing agents adhere to the water hose after extinguishing and are not cleaned thoroughly, it will accelerate material degradation. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the water hose has no residual pollutants before storage.
Maintain ventilation and dryness: The warehouse should be equipped with ventilation windows or forced ventilation devices to ensure air circulation and prevent water hoses from getting damp due to long-term sealing. The ground should be equipped with moisture-proof mats or elevated storage racks. It is forbidden to directly stack water hoses on the ground, especially to avoid corners of the warehouse, window sills, and other locations that are prone to water accumulation or direct sunlight.
There are still many precautions to be taken in the preservation of fire hoses, which may seem trivial but are actually the "front-line battlefield" for firefighting operations. Every firefighter should establish the concept of "equipment equals combat effectiveness", strictly implement various preservation requirements, and ensure that every water hose can be effective at critical moments, laying a solid foundation for equipment protection to safeguard the safety of people's lives and property.
